Review Torino+Piemonte Card
There is no doubt that you save quite a bit of money with the Torino+Piemonte Card. Unlike other cities, where passes perhaps have more advantages in terms of convenience and practicality, in this case there is also a strong cost-effectiveness added.
Economic savings
Turin has some must-see museums and royal residences. It is a historic city with a rich architectural and artistic heritage, and if you have not yet visited its wonders, I recommend that you do so as soon as possible!
From personal experience, you will visit at least 3 attractions (e.g. Egyptian Museum, Venaria Reale and Royal Museums). Already adding up the cost of these museums, which on average cost 15€, you arrive at the cost of the 3-day Torino+Piemonte Card. From the fourth onward then, it is as if you visit everything for free!
There is also a "junior" version of the Card, for children between the ages of 13 and 18, but in my opinion in this case it is not always worthwhile. I say this because in Turin's civic and state museums, minors always get in for free, so the savings in economic terms should be calculated according to what you intend to visit.
To enable you to better evaluate the economic aspect, I provide below a table with the prices of individual museums, without passes.
Attractions | Adult | 0-12 years old | 13-18 years old |
---|---|---|---|
Egyptian Museum | € 18 | € 1 | € 3 |
Royal Museums | € 15 | free | free |
Museum of the Shroud | € 8 | € 3 | € 8 |
Venaria Reale | € 20 | € 10 | € 10 |
Automobile Museum | € 15 | € 5 | € 5 |
National Cinema Museum | € 15 | € 13 | € 13 |
Madama Palace | € 10 | free | free |
€ 101 | € 32 |
€ 39 |
If you think that the 3-day Turin + Piedmont Card costs only 45 €, we have a savings of over 50%. And if a child up to 12 years old is traveling with us, we save an additional 32 €!
Other benefits
In addition to the affordability, with the Torino + Piemonte Card you can book online admission to museums and attractions, such as the Egyptian Museum, the Royal Museums or the Reggia di Venaria Reale.
Of course, this limits you a bit because you have to arrange your itinerary in advance, but it offers the great advantage of skipping the line and being able to enter at your chosen time.
With the card, you will also be entitled to a number of additional discounts and reductions on other cultural sites, major events, outdoor activities, theme parks, tours and guided tours.
The Turin + Piedmont Card does not include public transportation, but it allows you to purchase 2-day and 3-day tickets for Turin's urban and suburban GTT transportation (buses, streetcars, and subway) at a promotional rate.
Also to get around the city, you will get a 10% discount for the City Sightseeing Torino double-decker tour buses and reduced-price tickets for the Sassi - Superga tramway, the "Venaria Express" shuttle and the Mole Antonelliana elevator.
When is it not convenient?
The Turin + Piedmont Card is not convenient if you visit fewer than 3 / 4 museums or other attractions. In this case the financial savings are somewhat missed.
At particular times of the year, such as Springtime of Museums or during other initiatives, museums in Turin are open for free or with discounted tickets. Here again, of course, the affordability of the pass is lost.
Beware then that many museums in Turin are closed on Mondays.
Years ago it was not very convenient during busy tourist periods because you could not book museums online and could find long lines at the entrance. Nowadays, on the other hand, even with the Torino + Piemonte Card you can book in advance, so there are very few occasions on a tourist trip to Torino when the Card is not convenient.
How does the Torino+Piemonte Card work?
The operation of the Torino Card is quite simple.
You purchase it online and you get a QR Code via email. This code is your Card and you can have it scanned directly from your smartphone to enter museums and get the various discounts.
Turin + Piedmont CardThe Torino Card is not named; in fact, the QR Code is unique and no other form of authentication is needed.
If you wish, you can also purchase it on the spot at the Tourism Offices. In that case you will be given a card with your qr code printed on the back.
Booking attractions
Museums and attractions can also be booked in advance online for those who have purchased the Torino + Piemonte Card.
For some it can be a hassle to have to plan in advance when and where to go, I assure you, however, that for some attractions (such as the Egyptian Museum) it is a great advantage, saving you long waits in line at the entrance.
Reservations are required only in a few cases (Egyptian Museum on weekends and holidays, Mandria and Moncalieri Castle). However, I recommend that you book your admission for the other museums as well, maybe even 1 or 2 days in advance, just to be sure that you can enter without standing in line. Time on vacation, you know, is always precious.
When booking, look carefully for the option for those who are Torino + Piemonte Card holders, this way you will get the ticket for free. For some museums there is a small service fee for pre-sale, to be paid separately.
